A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Project Drake

This is a small platform game starring our little pixel hero, Drake. This version is the full game. Purchasing the game will give you a downloadable version that you can keep forever.

The downloadable version comes in two flavors. A Windows executable for all modern flavors of windows, and a flash version that should work in any browser running flash.

PLEASE NOTE: The flash version has been discontinued due to the closure of Adobe Flash Player in modern web browsers.  I will not be updating it, but I will keep the version 1.0 flash game available for purchase and play for those without windows or on older systems.  So far the only missing features in the flash version are the pause and file select screens, so it's still very much enjoyable if you can run it.  Please remember to check your system to make sure you can run old flash games before purchasing if you don't have windows! - 12/12/2020

You will also get these:

  • No "please support" screen at start of game.
  • Pause game with P, and exit a stage in progress. (Windows version only, sorry.)
  • Play offline without any internet.
  • Keep a copy of Drake forever.

You can contact Gawain Doell at darkgrif@gmail.com with any feedback or support issues! I will also check in on the page comments if you prefer to leave some public feedback others can read!

Controls:

-Use the arrow keys left and right to move.

-Use A to jump, S to attack, and D to breath fire.

-Hold down arrow + D to breath flamethrower.

-When dialog is shown, press A to continue.

-When on the map screen, use arrows to select a level, and press A to play.

-On the title you can view the credits by pressing S.

A very special thanks to my family for supporting me, and of course to anyone who donates!

Updates:

12/25/2020

Minor update to 1.2 with a major fix for false positive antivirus detection.  The game has been built with a new version of Clickteam Fusion that should correct the false positive detection from a lot of antivirus software.  If you had trouble downloading the windows version before, try version 1.2.  There are no other changes in this update.

Update for 2020!

First the bad news, the flash version will be discontinued.  It is still playable on older systems, but modern web browsers don't like flash.  So I can't support it anymore moving forward.  It just takes too much time for me to test on windows and flash versions, so I will focus only on the Windows platform from now on.

Now some good news!  Drake for windows now has a file select screen!  Saves can be erased in game as well, so now you can truly restart the game and play again or speed run to your heart's content!

4/3/2017

Release of version 1.0. All game levels are included in both the web game and the downloadable version. If you buy the download version by donating you can play it offline and keep Drake forever.

Where is Josh?

(+1)

Josh?  Did you post this to the wrong game page?  Drake doesn't have a Josh in it. :o

The joke went over your head ;)

🎵  I never thought it would be so simple but

Genuinely have no idea what you are referring to.  Is it from a tv show, movie, or youtube memes?  (I don't keep up with that stuff.)  Trying to figure out if this thread is spam to be removed or if it means something about the game to other readers.

Oh, ok.  I guess I can leave it for now so others can be amused by my lack of tv knowledge.  Thanks for taking the time to explain it. 😄

What a great game.  And finding all the orbs and using them was so satisfying.

I am so glad you enjoyed playing it, thanks for your comment, they all mean a lot to me. :)

Very good game! Short and sweet, and really good music!

Thanks!  I'm glad to hear you enjoyed playing! :)

So fun and cute! Although I wasted all my fireballs in the first 5 seconds. Drake is so cute and I love the music matched with the art and animations. I can't wait to continue playing.

Thanks so much for recording it!  I'm glad players like you are still enjoying it out there!  Really made my day to see you playing it on youtube too! :)

This was such a fun game, it has so much charm. Planning on replaying to try to light all of the incense tho, I wasn't ready.

I think the link to the music may be broken though, it sent me to a 'get rich quick' scheme site asking for my email.  Is there any place I could buy the soundtrack?? Thank you!

Ah, alas, it seems Mark's site is indeed down.  Sadly he was the source of the original music files, I am not sure his license will let me distribute it beyond inside my game. :( I will look into it tomorrow, but more then likely you are better off trying to track down the artist.  If it helps with the search, the tracks I used are part of his "70 days" chiptune collection.

Good news!  I found the artist on soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/marksparling/sets/70-days  The playlist doesn't have every song from the 70 days collection, but here is the list I used in case you want to dig deeper into the account and search.  Keep in mind the versions in Drake are cut a bit to loop well in game.

day 6, day 8, day 45, day 50, day 64, day 65, day 67, and day 70

I will try to write him and see what we can do about a soundtrack playlist.

Hi again!  For you and anyone else looking for the original songs I used in the game, you can find them in Mark's 70 days project.  He has uploaded it to this google drive link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1e3mg0m2yyuwzaaG7afQBySfTSVFR7rZS?usp=sharing

The tracks for a "soundtrack for Drake" would be 6, 8, 45, 50, 64, 65, 67, and 70.  The rest also have some great little gems, though they are not all in chiptune style.  Enjoy!

Sorry for taking so long to reply, life got in the way! Thank you again, especially for going the effort to find them!! :>

Loved this! Simplistic and yet still fast paced.

Has the secret final level got an orb or it's just something that was left there? If there is an orb, does it imply beating the boss without getting damage?

Great fun game, btw!

If Drake used the orbs to get somewhere secret, then there isn't any extra orbs to collect past that point.  The map just always shows an orb slot for each level. There isn't any secrets to the super secret boss besides getting the true ending.

Really glad to hear you enjoyed playing it!  Someday I'd love to make more Drake, sadly life hasn't given me the time since work has been crazy.  I do have plans for another adventure, though a little (but not much) more hi-res! ;)

Still, it would have been fun if you could have get an special thing for beating the secret boss unharmed. Also it would've been nice if prisoners also gave you something similar to the orbs to get more replaybility. Great fun game!

this is cool! cant wait for a sequel! (im a fan of everything thats pixely, i also liked the soundtrack)

Not sure what's going on here but I can't Download or Claim this.

I think it is because I have it at 100% off for corona virus sale.  If you just choose Download or Claim > then select to "pay with paypal" with the value set to 0 USD, it should skip the payment and just add the game to your itch.io account.  Let me know if it works or you still have issues getting it.

It gives me an error saying that a price must be provided.

Hmm, I don't know then, must be something on itch.io end of things.  I would ask the itch.io team directly for more info.

Everything in my control panels and my own testing says that pressing PayPal with 0.00 as the currency entered should be purchasing the game for your account.

For now you can just use the grey link on the pop up "no thanks just take me to the downloads".  It won't claim the game, but should let you download it.  Drake is one of my older games, so at this point any "update" will most likely be a sequel anyway.

I appreciate the reply, and trying to resolve this, unfortunately it just redirects me to the same page, probably for the web version.

Update: I think something is wrong with the link on this page, I was just able to claim it by using the Corona Virus link.

Thanks anyway :)

Muy bueno!!

Muchas gracias!
