Save time and get a head start making your map screen!

These are 2 color "map tiles" in the style of classic "Vania" games.  You use these tiles to build a map of your game world that the players would see on a map screen.  Examples include some of the Castlevania titles, Metroid, and other such "explore with a mini-map" games.

Technically speaking, these tiles could also be used for a dungeon map or anything else where you need an abstract representation of walls and connections.  Get creative, I'd love to see what you come up with!

I have included many colors, including gb green and pico8.  The tiles come in 8x8 and 16x16 versions.  They are in .png format to work with all software.  Each color comes as both a single sheet file, or as individual tiles sorted into color and size by folders.  The kit should be quite flexible.  Adding your own tile icons should be pretty easy.

Should you need a unique color scheme, all of the images are just 2 colors, so a quick "color replace", or "shift hue" operation on a set should work out great in your favorite painting software.

The test map in the screenshots was created in Tiled, using the single sheets.  It is not actually from any game, I made it just to demo the use of the tiles.
